The Beauty Refresh: New In & First Impressions

My views on makeup and beauty have definitely matured a little since I first started blogging. Gone are the days I would spend every last penny on the latest drops just for the sake of a review, nowadays I feel like I'm a lot more careful with my money and consider things to be more of an investment. I've spent just over a year trying to cut my beauty stash down to a manageable amount. Seriously, beauty influencer or not, you do not need endless drawers full of products you just never use. I've whittled my collection down to what I consider the "essentials", of course, I still probably own more makeup than the average girl my age, but I love and enjoy using every single product in my stash. Despite starting this post discussing how I've cut my collection down, I'm actually going to be talking you through some of the "new in" section. I've picked up a few new products over the last few months, a sort of beauty stash refresh if you wish. I knew I had a few gaps in my collection and after endless research, I feel like I've really hit the nail on the head with this "haul".

I knew that I wanted a dewy and brightening concealer, I love my Urban Decay offerings but they can be quite matte on the skin. I'd tried a few offerings from the drugstore in my earlier blogging days and loved the way they instantly brightened and lifted the skin. The Charlotte Tilbury Retoucher Pen in Fair definitely fit the bill perfectly. I love the application of this and feel like it does everything it says on the tin. I've actually worn this a few days without any foundation and been really happy with the finish. It just brings so much life so my complexion and I can 100% see myself repurchasing this time and time again. While I was browsing the CT counter I found myself drawn to the Instant Look In A Palette which basically is an all in one palette perfect for travel. With rose-gold and bronze tones this is definitely a popular palette amongst beauty lovers, but priced at £49 it is a little pricey. I wasn't sure whether I was really going to get the use out of it at first and had actually gone into store to purchase the Filmstar Killer Cheekbones face sculpt and highlight.  I was advised however by the lovely lady at the counter that for the same price I could pick up the face palette which had two blushes, three eyeshadows and the sculpt and highlight... it was pretty much a no-brainer really!

I'm extremely happy with the quality of the powders. I already knew I loved the formula of the eyeshadows but I was a little unsure about how their face products would sit on my borderline dry skin. I find the products to be extremely pigmented and easy to work with, they have a buttery texture which means they really sink into the skin and blend flawlessly. The soft shimmer of the eyeshadows is stunning - I've basically been using this palette every day for work since purchasing it and I'm smitten!

On the topic of eyeshadow the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows have definitely made themselves at home in my collection. I picked up the Urban Decay Liquid Moondusts on their release and was quite disappointed with how "average" they were. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of UD so I had definitely expected more from them... The Stila offerings are everything I wanted and more. They're 100% glitter and shimmer without being too much. I find that glitters can be difficult to work with and often quite messy - they also normally really aggravate my eyes. These beauties, however, are the complete opposite. With a water-infused blend of pearl and glitter, Stila have created the ultimate high impact glitter shadow without the weight, drying time or fallout. I'm in love and basically want every single shade.

I've been on the hunt for a new mascara for some time now, I've been using the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara but just felt like a change. I picked up the Lancome Hypnose Mascara and then the L'Oreal False Lash Architect to try and I have to say, I'm definitely impressed with both offerings. I do tend to favor the Lancome offering as it just gives you that something-something extra, however, if you're working on a smaller budget then I will always recommend L'Oreal mascaras! On a similar note, my Urban Decay Brow Gel recently ran out so I've been on the market for something new to try. I'm really having a thing for NYX at the moment, in fact, they're the only drugstore brand I check out on a regular basis nowadays, so when I noticed NYX Tinted Brow Mascara I knew I had to try it. It's safe to say I love it, even more than my UD offering in fact!

Last but not least, lipstick. I recently went through my lipstick collection and ended up getting rid of 2/3 of it. I feel like I've got plenty of reds in my life at the moment, but I was on the hunt for a few more nude hues for more of a day to day basis. The Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in Pillowtalk was obviously going to be one of the nude shades that made it into my stash. I've seen so many people go on about this lipstick, and before that lip liner, and so when I saw it in store I just had to snatch it up. I've worn it every single day since and I never want to stop wearing it. It's absolutely stunning and a real "your lips but better shade". I find it looks beautiful paired with a minimal and light makeup look, but also a heavier smoky eye... definitely one to add to your collection if you haven't already!

What's new in your makeup stash? Definitely let me know what you recommend picking up/looking into!
